La increíble demanda por parte de los amantes de la música Latina de tener una experiencia musical única dio lugar al desarrollo de El Premio de la Gente®, Latin Music Awards of the People®. Con una audiencia televisiva a nivel nacional a través de la cadena Telemundo y una fuerte campaña de votación a lo largo de los Estados Unidos, El Premio de la Gente®, Latin Music Awards of the People® es una muestra del poder de votación de la audiencia. Para su sexto aniversario, el premio regresera en donde comenso, el elegante Universal Amphitheatre en la popular ciudad de Los Angeles, California.

El Premio de la Gente® comenzó en el otoño de 1999 ofreciendo a los amantes de la música Latina una nueva alternativa en premios musicales. En lugar de aceptar pasivamente las decisiones de la industria con respecto a lo mejor en la Música Latina, se les otorgó a los fanáticos de la música la oportunidad de decidir por ellos mismos quienes son los mejores en diversas categorías musicales.

Se ofrecieron diversas estaciones de votación para los fanáticos a lo largo del país, en las tiendas de musica, supermercados Latinos y en Red Lobster. Con esta simple idea, El Premio de la Gente® nació un Miércoles, 20 de Octubre del año 1999 en el Universal Amphitheatre. El exitoso evento incluyó El Tributo Nacional, un reconocimiento especial a la trayectoria de Juan Gabriel.

El evento continuó creciendo en el año 2000, cuando se agregaron nuevos centros de votación en mas supermercados, tiendas de musica y correo directo. El evento fue nuevamente televisado por Telemundo y presentado en el Universal Amphitheatre. En el año 2001, los fanáticos tuvieron la posibilidad de votar por internet. Sumado a esto, el evento ese año, fue trasladado al legendario Shrine Auditorium en Los Angeles California, y se llevó a cabo a pesar de la incertidumbre generada por los trágicos eventos internacionales de ese otoño.

En 2002, El grandioso Teatro Kodak de Hollywood, California se convirtió en la nueva casa de El Premio de La Gente® en su cuarto año. Este año se agregaron nuevos centros de votación, incluyendo tiendas nacionales. Los fanáticos disfrutaron esta vez de la oportunidad de ver a sus artistas favoritos más de cerca, mientras se paseaban por la espectacular alfombra roja situada en Hollywood Blvd. al frente del teatro.

History of El Premio de la Gente®

El Premio de la Gente®, Latin Music Awards of the People is an exciting music awards show that recognizes the best in Latin music with a dynamic and exhilarating program that showcases the hottest musical superstars. The Latin music world's most prestigious awards show offers a unique twist. El Premio de la Gente® truly is the "award of the people," because it is the only high profile musical event that allows fans to decide the winners. The power of this exciting show rests squarely in the hands of fans all across the U.S.

The incredible demand by Latin music lovers for a unique musical experience resulted in the development of El Premio de la Gente®. With a nation-wide television audience on Telemundo and a strong voting base across the U.S., the show is testament to the power of the people. The 6th anniversary celebration is going back to where it started at the fantastic Universal Amphitheatre in the entertainment capitol of the world, Hollywood, California.

El Premio de la Gente® started in the fall of 1999 offering Latin music lovers a novel approach to music award shows. Instead of passively accepting music industry decisions about the best in Latin music, music fans were given the opportunity to decide for themselves the best in distinct music categories. Fans were offered voting stations nation-wide at supermarkets, music chains and Red Lobsters. With this simple idea, El Premio de la Gente® was born on Wednesday, October 20, 1999 at the Universal Amphitheatre. A great success, the show included El Tributo Nacional, the lifetime achievement award, for Juan Gabriel.

The show continued to grow in 2000 with the addition of voting stations in supermarkets, music retail, and direct mail. The show was again broadcast on Telemundo and staged at the Universal Amphitheatre. In 2001, fans were given the option of voting online. In addition, the show was moved to the legendary Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California and went on as planned despite the uncertainty created by international events that Fall.

The Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California was the setting for the 4th Annual show in 2002. More voting stations were added in national retailers, in addition to the online voting program which started in 2001. Fans were also treated to a spectacular Red Carpet right on Hollywood Boulevard.
